Hindu religion is the birthplace of the soul theory. Practically it is believed since Satuyuga that soul exist inside us and is the only source of life.If you have soul,you are alive and if you don’t have soul you are a dead man.

But the earliest written argument is in Bhagwat Gita,where Krishna himself explains Soul and its significance.He says that all of humans are mortals but the soul inside them is immortal. So the soul is truth while our bodies are all a big lie,which seems like a virtual reality to many of us and we get attracted to this lie and hence just waste the precious human life.

Yes,you are immortal and you don’t know it,even if you know,you don’t believe it,even if you believe it,you don’t understand it’s significance,even if you know its significance,you don’t work towards it.And the moment you work towards it,you will become a true immortal,someone who can not die. So that is the power of our soul and our religion is the first one to depict it,not only depict it but work on it and develop the theory of Avataras ,Rebirths and many other things.
